MARTIN
BRANDWEIN
ARCHITECT

Firm Profile

Founded in 1994, Martin Brandwein Architect (MBA) specializes in residential design ranging from modern to classical, with a specialty in traditional design. The firm has completed numerous renovation and restoration projects in New York City and the outlying region. In 1997, the firm received the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award given by the New York Landmark Conservancy for its restoration work of a Brooklyn townhouse.  Although the majority of MBA’s work is residential, the firm has worked on projects for synagogues, community groups, and commercial use.

Before establishing his own practice, Mr. Brandwein worked for nationally known architects such as Jaquelin T. Robertson, Kliment and Halsband, Alexander Gorlin, and Boris Baranovich. Through his association with Jaque Robertson and by taking classes in classical architecture at the National Academy of Design in New York, Martin Brandwein developed a passion for traditional architecture. For over thirty years, Mr. Brandwein has taught drawing classes in classical architecture at the National Academy of Design, The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, and Historic Winsdor’s Preservation Institute.

Martin Brandwein’s extensive knowledge of classical architecture has allowed the firm to approach both the renovation of old buildings and the design of new buildings with care and sensitivity. Yet MBA does not adhere to a set of rigid classical formulas when designing a project. Rather, by carefully listening to the clients’ needs and analyzing the unique context of each project, the firm aims to produce original architectural solutions. This approach, combined with meticulous attention to details and skilled project management, brings each of the firm’s projects to successful completion.

Mr. Brandwein is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a Fellow of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. He has also achieved the designation of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional.
